Collective Investments & Exchange Traded Funds
For some clients and for certain areas of investment, it may be appropriate to invest in a more broadly based manner. Collective Investment Schemes, both authorised and unauthorised, and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) help fulfil this requirement.
The most commonly used Collective Investment Schemes are either Investment Trusts, Unit Trusts or OEICS. Some Investment Trusts can be traced back to the 19th Century. The most recent addition to the pooled fund stable is ETFs and, like Investment Trusts, they are companies listed on a Recognised Investment Exchange (RIE). However, they are also similar to Unit Trusts in that they are able to issue additional ‘shares’ to satisfy demand. ETFs aim to closely track a specified underlying index, be it equity or fixed interest, commodity or currency, while the majority of both Investment and Unit Trusts aim to better a chosen benchmark.
Our Collective Funds Team researches, monitors and recommends appropriate funds from across the spectrum, both domestically and internationally. We also cover more specialist areas such as ‘alternative investment’ funds and can arrange savings schemes for those who wish to invest on a regular basis, utilising ‘pound cost averaging’ to smooth market fluctuations.
